In short, this mod re-skins a few units, adds some 45 new units for diversity purposes, standardizes mercenary/ auxillary/ regular unit stats, tries to give each playable faction a unique feel, and generally mixes up the meta a bit. They dont take heavy beating and always rack up some kills so you can pretty consistentnly up their experience making them more and more deadly as your campaign progresses.I made this mod to tailor the game to my specific likings and I thought I could release it for others to enjoy as well. amazing units and are included in every army composition of mine. Im using the newest experimental pack whick makes light units fast and heavy units slow leading to very high versatility of peltasts who can easily circle around on the field. I use peltasts in two ways (after using up their javs ofc) i) staying behind my front line and attacking every one who manages to break my line (or those rotating AI hoplites :p) ii) acting as flanking units who help to flank the enemy and attack the flank or rear of the units fighting on extreme right or left flank. Once their javelins are spent you may use them in melee to flank the enemy units which have previously engaged in combat with your regular line infantry, but to expect these peltasts to last in frontal combat against hastati would be a way too optimistic.Exactly. As Geffalrus said above, the peltasts you are talking about are mostly skirmish unit. So yes, the unit you're looking at is a durable skirmishing unit that is decent at range and in melee, but not cost effective if you only want javelins - or - melee. Anyway, they are short pikes, which means they have a higher speed and attack value than the long pikes (Bronze Shields), but lower survivability. Technically the shield they carry is a pelta.so they were called peltasts by some ancient writers. Makedon has the best version of this, but the Ptolemies also have one, just weaker. Even more expensive, and uses the elite population pool.

A proper size elite melee unit with good stats all around. Makedon, Seleucids, and Ptolemies have these guys. Can dunk on low-tier melee units and weaker skirmishers, but will fall to same-tier melee mostly because they will have a higher unit size and probably better melee stats (but weaker ranged ability).Ģ) Royal Peltasts (Sword). A bit pricey, but decent combat stats and survivability. This is the one we're most familiar with, and the one Epirus gets from the start. Peltast as a name is a little imprecise since the ancients used it for multiple things.ġ) Peltast as skirmisher.
